What a good tour driver brings
On a touring programme the driver is the face of your business for days at a time. We look for drivers who are punctual, calm in traffic and on narrow roads, careful with the vehicle and genuinely good with passengers.
Practical things matter too: loading luggage properly, keeping the coach clean and presentable between stops, managing arrival times at hotels and attractions, and planning breaks so the day stays within the drivers' hours rules.
Booking for the peak season
Summer touring, Easter and the festival season all put pressure on coach drivers at the same time. Operators who talk to us early get the widest choice of drivers and the best chance of keeping the same driver for a whole programme.
Coach tour driver questions
Can your drivers stay away for multi-day tours?
Yes. Our touring drivers are used to nights away, hotel stays and long programmes. Tell us the itinerary and accommodation arrangements when you book.
Do your drivers know Highland and island routes?
We match drivers to the itinerary. For Highland and island tours we place drivers with experience of single-track roads, mountain passes and ferry crossings.
Can you supply a driver-guide who gives commentary?
Tell us when you book. Some of our drivers are comfortable providing commentary, and we will only place a driver-guide where that is agreed in advance.
Who plans the drivers' hours on a tour?
The operator plans the itinerary and is responsible for drivers' hours compliance. Our drivers will flag any part of a schedule that would not work within the rules before the tour starts.
